Summer is almost upon us and the lives of those with school-age kids will suddenly jump the tracks on which they routinely run. With the crazy schedules and added free time in mind, I’m considering some new, out-of-the-ordinary classes for the summer… and I want your feedback! These classes would be short-term commitments and would not imply that the student wants a permanent slot once the class is over. Some ideas include:
- A Song in Six! - Learn to play a song with the most common chords in six lessons over the span of two weeks (three 30-minute lessons per week). This will be a class format with special discounted pricing. (Most students can progress from knowing nothing about guitar to playing a basic song in six lessons; however, results vary from student to student and are not guaranteed.)
- Worship Leading 101 – Do you have a desire to play and sing before a group of people and lead them in worship? Doing so involves more than knowing chords and carrying a tune. Learn how to lead others with some basic “must-know” principles through eight lessons over the span of four weeks (two 30-minute lessons per week). This will be a small class format (3-4 students) with special discounted pricing and will include some “lab” experiences leading small groups in worship.
- Band Basics – If you have some friends with a basic knowledge of their instruments and would like some private help getting the band from garage chaos to some sense of musicality, this is the class for you! Bring your gear to my studio for a month and let’s practice together! I will help you learn how your instruments are meant to sync together to create good music through two practices a week for four weeks. This is a private mentoring commitment between myself and the band for a limited period of time with very limited availability – I think I can only handle one or two bands at a time! Special discounted pricing available.
