Beginning in January 2009, I will begin offering guitar classes along with my private lessons. If you read the “About” page on this website you will see that I believe that private lessons are the best way for a student to succeed at guitar. However, there is a high demand for lessons in our area and not a lot of teachers, so I have chosen to offer these classes in order to accommodate more students.

These classes will be held at the Colquitt County Arts Center in Moultrie. I will continue to teach private lessons at my home studio but will also offer them at the Arts Center for the convenience of students who live in or near Moultrie and would rather not travel to Norman Park. With the addition of these new classes there will also be a raise in tuition across the board. The new offerings and prices are:

30-minute weekly private lesson @ my home studio (Norman Park) $65/month
30-minute weekly private lesson @ Colquitt County Arts Center $75/month
45-minute class lesson @ Colquitt County Arts Center $50/month

I will be paying the Arts Center for the use of their facilities, hence the price difference for private lessons there versus at my home studio. Think of it this way – if it’s a long drive to Norman Park for you, you will save that $10 easily in month’s worth of gas money!

I know that price increases are never a happy change but I believe that the options I can offer with these new classes will benefit my students and the extra tuition will allow me to advance what I can do for you with Imago Music.

The guitar lessons world tends to run in seasons and every so often an influx of new students will come out of nowhere! Apparently we’re in one of those seasons and we say a big “Welcome!” to our newbies! Hayden and Brian are learning acoustic guitar, while Micah and Andrew are learning bass guitar. I also have a new guitar class on Thursday evenings at the Colquitt County Arts Center and we have a handful of new students from it. So, to all our Imago Music newbies… we’re glad you’re here and we hope you enjoy learning to rock!

Eric’s skipping out! Rescheduled lessons alert!

OK… so I told you quite a while back that we wouldn’t have lessons during the week of July 4th. There are several reasons for this. 1) Lots of people go out of town this week and cancel lessons on their own. 2) I will be at Kids Camp in Alabama with Lexie and the children’s ministry from church and won’t be able to do lessons. This worked out GREAT because my Monday lessons would be having their 5th lesson of the month (you only paid for 4) and my Wednesday and Thursday lessons would have 5 lessons in July, so we could afford to skip these. So we are.

Now for the latest news… I will also be out of town the following week (July 7-11). I am going to Youth Camp in Florida that week. Why didn’t I mention it before? Because I didn’t think I would be going. As most of you know, my job at the church is in transition and we are in the process of looking for a new pastor to take the youth department. I was absolutely certain we would have one by now. But we don’t. We think we may be close, but nothing definite yet. So… guess who’s going to camp?!

Here’s what I’d like to do – I don’t want to get way off schedule with lessons, so I would like to do all my make-up lessons on Saturday, July 12th. I will be in contact with you to see if that day works for you and to schedule your slot. Thanks for understanding.

No lessons during week of July 4th

Lessons are cancelled for the week of July 4th. There are five weeks in July this year and I will be out of town that first week (as will many of you), so it worked out great to simply cancel lessons. All of my students will still get the usual four lessons for the month and we won’t have to worry with rescheduling around the holiday! Hooray!

Private Lesson Openings

I currently have two 30-minute private lesson spots open. They were both originally scheduled for Monday afternoons, one at 5:30PM and the other at 6:00PM at my home studio in Norman Park. Need something to do this summer?

Summer is almost upon us and the lives of those with school-age kids will suddenly jump the tracks on which they routinely run. With the crazy schedules and added free time in mind, I’m considering some new, out-of-the-ordinary classes for the summer… and I want your feedback! These classes would be short-term commitments and would not imply that the student wants a permanent slot once the class is over. Some ideas include:

A Song in Six! - Learn to play a song with the most common chords in six lessons over the span of two weeks (three 30-minute lessons per week). This will be a class format with special discounted pricing. (Most students can progress from knowing nothing about guitar to playing a basic song in six lessons; however, results vary from student to student and are not guaranteed.)
Worship Leading 101 – Do you have a desire to play and sing before a group of people and lead them in worship? Doing so involves more than knowing chords and carrying a tune. Learn how to lead others with some basic “must-know” principles through eight lessons over the span of four weeks (two 30-minute lessons per week). This will be a small class format (3-4 students) with special discounted pricing and will include some “lab” experiences leading small groups in worship.
Band Basics – If you have some friends with a basic knowledge of their instruments and would like some private help getting the band from garage chaos to some sense of musicality, this is the class for you! Bring your gear to my studio for a month and let’s practice together! I will help you learn how your instruments are meant to sync together to create good music through two practices a week for four weeks. This is a private mentoring commitment between myself and the band for a limited period of time with very limited availability – I think I can only handle one or two bands at a time! Special discounted pricing available.

Scheduling for these special summer classes can vary greatly, including morning or early afternoon hours. Please post your comments about any of these proposed classes below!

Welcome to the new website for Imago Music! What exactly is IM? For years I have been teaching music lessons – in fact, you have most likely found this site because you are a current student, parent of a student or prospective students. Imago Music is the official name for my music business and private lessons are the biggest part of this business.

I have also recently begun learning to repair guitars. As I become better and better at this, my intentions are to salvage these instruments, give them some serious TLC and resell them at great prices as beginner instruments. Many of the budget instruments on the market today are cheaply made and play poorly; old guitars that need some special care can make much better quality (and budget-friendly) instruments.

Finally, I also have aspirations to own a project recording studio. Most of my students are taught at my house in what I currently call “the shed.” This is an old lap-board building that I am in the process of renovating into a top-notch music studio for lessons and recording.

Music is a passion of mine. I enjoy listening to it, writing it and teaching it. This website is meant to provide information for prospective students and serve as a tool for current students. Please bear with me as it develops – like most of my projects, it will take some time!
