WHAT WE DID THIS LESSON:
- Learned the parts of the guitar
- Learned the names of the strings
- Learned to tune the guitar with an electronic tuner and manually
- Worked on G major and C major
- Introduced the concept of a strum pattern
THIS WEEK:
1) Memorize the parts of the guitar
- body, neck, head/headstock, tuners/machine heads, nut, fingerboard/fretboard, fret wire, fret, fret markers/inlays, binding, bridge, saddle, bridge pins, sound hole, pick guard, bracing, strap button
2) Memorize the names of the strings

3) Work on strumming between G major and C major
- use the strum pattern down/down-up
- play each chord twice then move

- Remember to slow down. You don’t want to speed right up to the gap and then have to stop. Make it smooth and slow… the gap will be minimized then.

- The song structure is getting better for you. Try to remember where you skip that A

- Remember that I won’t be here next week, so we won’t have lesson. However, there are five Mondays in March, so we’ll still get in our four lessons.

- Really work on pulling out the notes on your walk-up at the beginning of the song
- Remember to stop the strum pattern early after the last line of the chorus and the last line of the verse (down/down-down-up/down)

1) Keep working on “Simple Man”
- Work on the timing for your walk-up. Remember that the last down stroke you play is 3, you have that silent 4 then you walk up
- We’re only doing the walk-up at the end of the chorus. That’s a change from last week

- Introduced the idea of notated rhythm with whole, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes
- Notated the strum patterns we’ve used so far
