    - You’re doing a good job! Keep it up!

    - Reviewed last week’s material
    - Played through “Sweet Home Alabama”

    - Strum pattern: down/down-up
    - Remember to think shapes, cheat the upstroke, slow down and practice until your fingers bleed!
    - Our big focus right now is to CLOSE THE GAP!

  9. Paid $65 for February lessons.

  10. February 9, 2009

    WHAT WE DID THIS LESSON:
    - Reviewed last week’s material
    - Practiced the G to C exercise and made up a song about closing the gap

    THIS WEEK:
    1) Practice closing the gap
    - Keep working on your G to C exercise some more

    2) If you get tired of doing the G to C exercise, you can practice “Sweet Home Alabama.”

    OTHER:
    - We’re working to get over the first-month hump… this is where students have to try and close the gap and keep going. Keep up the practice and it’ll get better… and we’ll be able to knock out several songs!
    - Your chords sounds GREAT and you have good rhythm… you’re making strong progress. You should feel good about what you’re doing.

  11. Dear Mr.Eric,
Could send the song we made up or a different one to help me close my gap?Because I’m having trouble doing that.So please send me a song.Thanks.

    Love you’re student,
    Patience Allegood!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. February 16, 2009

    WHAT WE DID THIS LESSON:
    - Reviewed last week’s material
    - Worked on the G to C exercise
    - Worked on “Sweet Home Alabama”

    THIS WEEK:
    1) Keep practicing “Sweet Home Alabama”
    - Again, your rhythm and chords are strong… we just need to keep chipping away at that gap!
    - Practice moving to your next chord without looking at the fretboard. We worked on this some in lesson and it seemed to help.

    2) If you get bored with “Sweet Home Alabama,” you can work on the G to C exercise. Play each chord twice using the d/d-u strum pattern.

    OTHER:
    - You asked about the song we made up last week. I can’t remember all of the lyrics because I was making them up as we went along, but we used the G to C exercise and the lyrics went something like:

Patience is learning to play the guitar / Trying to close the gap
Her chords sound really good / And she’s trying to close the gap
Patience is playing that ol’ guitar / And trying to close the gap
Her rhythm is nice and strong / Before long she won’t have any gap!

  13. February 23, 2009

    WHAT WE DID THIS LESSON:
    - Reviewed material from last week
    - Introduced “Achy Breaky Heart”
    - Introduced the Twelve Bar Blues

    THIS WEEK:
    1) Practice “Achy Breaky Heart”
    - We’re taking a break from “Sweet Home Alabama” and are working on ABH so that you can keep working on closing the gap without getting bored with “Sweet Home Alabama”
    - You can use this link to see the words (kind of… they’re not right on this Web site) http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/b/billy_ray_cyrus/achy_breaky_heart_ver2_crd.htm
    - The chords in the page that is linked above are not in the key we’re playing. Every where it says A, play a G. Where it says E, play a D.
    - Remember that you play the G six times the first time you play it, then everything else is eight times after that, using the down/down-up strum pattern

    2) If you get bored with ABH, work on Twelve Bar Blues.

  14. Dear Mr.Eric,
I have been working on Achy Breaky Heart and I notised well I think I am doing better on it.Also I have been playing to the song by Billy Ray Cyrus and by William Hung.It is fun doing it with William Hung because it is someone different. Also doing it with William Hung is fun because I think it goes slower just a tid bit. Also it sounds a little like he is part chinese so it sounds wierd.
